We just received a customer question regarding load capacities for Unistrut brackets. The design load for Unistrut brackets depends on two variables--the part number specified--and the strength of the channel used for the given application.
In this case, our customer didn't specifiy a particular bracket--or the channel size. That said, if you consult the Unistrut Engineering Catalog, the answer to this type of question is right at your finger tips. After you open up the PDF version of our catalog--or your hard copy, begin by consulting pages 91-93. For the purposes of this exercise, we'll assume our customer is curious about a Unistrut P1773 bracket.
If you look at the illustration below, you'll note that a P1773 bracket is rated for design loads ranging from 450 pounds when used with 16 gauge P2000 up to 900 pounds when attached to 12 gauge P1000.
In most cases, answers to questions regarding dimensions, load ratings, hole patterns and spacing, etc. are easily found in the Unistrut Engineering Catalog. If you are struggling to find answers to your technical questions relating to the use of Unistrut, feel free to contact Unistrut Service Company for further assistance.
